Our most Famous Taxi Driver, wants to "Clear His Name"

Gerry "The Monk" Hutch, has asked for an interview, (which has been refused) on Ireland's top chat show "The Late Late Show", in an effort to counteract a feature due to appear on TV3's "Dirty Money" program which will claim he is/was a gangster, however, he has been granted an interview on the popular "Primetime " show where he will endeavor to clear his name.
Although Gerry has paid out over €1.3 million to the criminal assets bureau, (CAB), he has never been convicted of a serious crime, just some petty stuff as a child in the 80s, however Paul Williams, the journalist doing the "Dirty Money" program has ascertained he was involved in the £3.8 million Brinks Allied robbery in 1995, amongst others.
Gerry was awarded a small public service vehicle license despite the police fighting it's issuing through the courts and he then began operating as a Taxi driver, he now operates a very popular stretched Hummer limousine company.
I had Gerry in my Taxi once a good while back and although he was extremely friendly, he was also extremely intimidating, he hailed me from the street and we picked up a nephew of his, whom he advised to plead guilty to some minor traffic offenses in return for a larger one being dropped , (good advice I thought), we then dropped the lad off and Gerry returned to where I'd picked him up.
Nothing spectacular but that was the job.
He was nicknamed "The Monk" by Veronica Guerin, the journalist who was murdered by gangsters, which lead to the setting up of CAB, it is said she liked him and chose the name because of his general demeanor, the fact he seemingly stayed clear of Drugs and was good to the area he grew up in, setting up a boxing club for example.

Is the Viper Bullet Proof?

Martin "The Viper" Foley has survived yet another hail of bullets, but remains in a critical condition with four wounds to the body.
He was shot outside Ben Dunnes fitness centre in Kimmage, Martin walked to the Garda car that took him to the hospital, so he can't be too bad?
In September 2000, The Viper was shot several times leaving another fitness centre in Terenure college, the previous April the IRA's attempt to shoot him was intercepted by the Gardai, two other attempts to assassinate him failed in the 90's.
The Viper is one of the so called ODCs (ordinary decent criminals) and was a close associate of Martin "The General" Cahill who they say was the last person killed on the orders of the IRA's Army Council. The ODC's tended to rob banks, security vans and businesses, as opposed to the current crop that deal mainly in drugs.
Martin is currently "legit" running a "Debt collection agency" quite a successful one I believe!

Fatpuss update

I thought I'd better update on the situation regarding Alan "Fatpuss" Bradley, as a large number of people visiting the site have done so via that post.
A large security presence surrounded the court in Kilmainham today for the hearing of the Bradley Brothers and their associates remand hearing, no depositions were made on there behalf , and all said nothing in response to charges made.
Incidentally one of the individuals held works for the security firm....maybe an inside job eh?

Fatpuss caught (is this good or bad news?)

Alan Bradley, known in the tabloids as Fatpuss and his brother Wayne along with 3 other "gang" members were caught in the act of holding up a security van containing €2million.
It must have been one of their drug shipments that the police stumbled upon if they needed to carry out this sort of risky venture?
The net result of this is that there will be a turf war to see who gains a stranglehold over their territory, hopefully no-one gets killed, but in all probability someone will.

Taxi driver "fears for his own life and will never drive Taxi again"

The Taxi driver in who's car John Daly was assassinated (see earlier post) has spoken to the papers;
Mike, aged 40, a father of 4, including a 3 year old baby, has been a taxi driver in Dublin for 16 years, says he now fears for his own life after witnessing the murder and will never again drive a Taxi.
Recalling the horrific incident, he remembers catching a glimpse of a figure to the left of the car when suddenly the passenger window exploded, he instinctively turned to his right to avoid the glass as 5 more shots where fired into his cab,the police say this is what saved him being shot. He tried to get out of the cab but John Daly's body had slumped over him, stopping him doing so.
Since the event he finds himself repeatedly saying in his mind "please, please, please, please don't shoot me. He says he checks himself constantly, feeling the sensation that he is bleeding along his left side where John Daly fell against him, and is certain that the killers will come and target both him and his family.

Thank god it wasn't me driving............

A Dublin criminal was assassinated last night whilst sitting in the front passenger seat of a Taxi in Dublin, the driver picked him and his friends up from outside a nightclub in the city.
I really hope the driver gets some counseling and is able to continue in his chosen job.

The story;

A notorious armed robber who sparked a prison security scare after calling a radio show from his cell has been shot dead.
Dublin criminal John Daly, 27, who sparked a major clampdown on the use of mobile phones in Irish jails after calling RTE's Liveline programme, was shot as he sat in a taxi with three other men in the north of the city. He was hit several times from point blank range.

Opposition politicians warned the murder may lead to an escalation in gangland crime. Gardai said a lone gunman carried out the killing at Cloonlara Drive, Finglas South. It is understood Daly, from the Cloonlara area, was singled out by the killer and hit up to five times. He was rushed to the Mater Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
